Beyond Bayeux: Tapestry Now Exhibition

Discover the stories woven into the past and the artists creating the tapestries of tomorrow, at this beautifully curated exhibition in collaboration with Dovecot Studios.

As the 'Bayeux Tapestry' returns to the UK for the first time in almost 1,000 years, 'Beyond Bayeux: Tapestry Now' celebrates tapestry as one of the world's oldest, yet most vibrant and evolving art forms.

Created in collaboration with world-renowned Dovecot Studios, the exhibition brings together more than 20 artists who are redefining tapestry today. Featuring extraordinary collaborations between Dovecot's master weavers and leading artists including David Hockney, Yinka Shonibare, Tania Kovats, Alberta Whittle and Rachel Maclean, alongside major new commissions with Hurvin Anderson and Farshid Moussavi, the exhibition showcases the weaver's remarkable skill.

• Over 20 contemporary tapestries created in collaboration with Dovecot Studios
• A monumental new tapestry by Turner Prize-nominated artist Hurvin Anderson, commissioned to mark the 600th anniversary of Lincoln College, Oxford, before its permanent installation next year
• A tapestry version of David Hockney's 1963 painting 'Play within a Play'
• 'The Garden Carpet', created by Farshid Moussavi and Dovecot Studios for V&A Dundee
• Innovative works by Yinka Shonibare, Alberta Whittle, Rachel Maclean and Tania Kovats
• A programme of talks, tours and special events exploring tapestry's past, present and future

Time: Daily 10am to 5pm.

Admission: Pay What You Can. You can pay as much or as little as you like for your ticket or visit for free. Income from this exhibition will help the Gallery to put on new public exhibitions and support their education and conservation programmes.
